Crossing Over

There definitely was a moment when I crossed over from listening to the same crap everyone else did, to being more adventurous. Before our neighborhood got MTV, there was this great little video show called MV3. I rushed home from high school each afternoon to watch it. While it does explain my penchant for New Wave, it also exposed me to some really great stuff. I remember seeing X on the show and thinking how cool they were. I knew then that nothing would be the same again. And it wasn't . Thank God.

What station was that on, and what years was it on? I don't remember that show at all. That is really cool.

It was on Channel 66 or something weird from about 1981-1984 or so. I'm not even sure it lasted that long. I'll check. It saved my pathetic suburban life.

The Brit guy who hosted it is probably the reason you went through your anglophile stage.

That and half the bands they played were British. Mmmmmm, Richard Butler. Still think he's a bit hot.

Didn't MV-50(?) come on the air shortly thereafter showing nothing but music videos and usually an eclectic mix? Between that, XRT, and Cabaret Metro, I was in music heaven...

That sounds familiar. My aging brain has trouble sometimes. Also, at that point I would have been away at college.

Remember staying up to listen to Johnny Mars on The Big Beat? It isn'r as good as it was back then.
