Two For Tuesday

Remember when stations had gimmicky stuff like Two for Tuesdays? Oh, wait, they still do have gimmicky stuff. Anyway, I've decided that I haven't posted near enough videos lately. I feel as if I have been slacking. So, I'm thinking I'll post something old and something new on Tuesdays. Well, until I forget that I decided to do this.

First up is a groovy tune from Fountains of Wayne. I like them. They don't seem to take themselves or the world around them too seriously. Added plus, generally bouncy, trouncy music.

Next up is an oldy and the definition of one hit wonder. I was listening to the radio on Saturday when this came on and immediately felt my feet start moving. This song reminds me of a place called Phil's Beach. There are a lot of tiny little lakes in Northern Illinois near the Wisconsin border and Phil's Beach was located on one of them. It had a great canteen and one of the original waterslides. The thing was metal and floated on a raft out in the lake. The thing I liked most about Phil's Beach was that they played music over the PA system. It was classic. I think there may even be a short clip of this place in the Blues Brother's movie. Anyhow, nothing says summer like listening to The Kings "This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide." Phil's Beach is gone now, but I can still get my new wave on and dance around to this one.

When I think of Phil's Beach I think about you pooping. Sorry, but it's true.

Thanks for the reminder, Lu. May that memory be a warning to you and your upcoming travels. Even when you think you are being careful, you can get really, really sick. They aren't kidding when they tell you to be careful about fruit and to not eat things from street vendors and to treat all of your water. I can tell you from personal experience that you get really sick and it lasts a long time and it is miserable.

The Kings song was out of print for many years: right around the time the song was a hit, their record company folded. Since the record company held the song rights, it took years to untangle the legal mess and put the song on cd, which it happily is now.

Great new series, Ten S! I look forward to Two for Tuesdays on your page. Excellent debut vids, too.

"hey little donna, still wanna?". thanks for the memory !!!

i was in a club in toronto in 1994 and these guys were opening for another band. nobody really knew who they were anymore, until they busted this one out at the end. you could see a look of recognition sweep the club and everyone freaked out.....

I always hoped The Kings would do something as cool as This Beat Goes On/Switchin' to Glide. I remember something about the record company debacle that Johnny mentioned as well.

Fountains of Wayne seem really cool and I like what I've heard but I can't watch, too busy watching the Kings again.

I'm practicing those little jump scissor moves right now. Did I just type that out loud?
