What Does 42 Look Like?

Somehow, I thought it would be different. I guess I thought that how I feel inside is how I would look outside. I'm not even sure I look like I should at 42.

You watch your parents age and I remember my parents going through their forties. They seemed so grown up to me. Of course, I was a kid, so anyone over the age of 18 was ancient, but they looked more mature than I think I do. I wonder if I seem the same way to my kids.

I wonder when I will have to give up some of the things that I love because I will simply be too old. Will I have to give them up? Will I stop wanting to do things at some point? Will I change? I haven't felt a strong change yet. I always wonder if it is lurking around the corner.

Aging is very strange. I'm not actively fighting against it, but I'm not letting it be an excuse to give up or to let go. It's hard to reconcile how you can feel so young inside, but your body ages. My father told me this week that his friends say the same thing. They're all in their seventies.

Here's to another year of being 18 on the inside.

Silly, you're not 42 until Saturday, right? Please tell me I didn't fuck it up again this year. It is the 27th, right?

That top picture looks just like Sweetness.

I have no idea how we're supposed to feel, Hell, I'm not entirely sure how we're supposed to dress, but that is a blog for another time.

Yes, Saturday, but the next two days are crazy for me, so I posted now.

As you prepare to enter 42, I prepare to leave it behind and embrace 43... Some time in my late 30's I gave up on age. It no longer seems to be relevant, or have an intrinsic meaning. Every day I meet people in their 30's who are old, both physically and mentally. I also meet people in their 60's with more energy and verve than I have. They look great too! My brothers are all in their 50's now, and one of them is in great shape for a 30 year old. He mountain bikes, skis and surfs with his twenty-something sons. Age seems to have become a function of personality and lifestyle.

Rock 'n roll and the baby boomers changed everything. It's no longer a generation gap. Maybe a "maturity" gap? An "interest" gap? A "tolerance" gap? Heck, sometimes there's no gap at all, and there are no real adults in a family. That's sad.

Here's to watching it all play out.

Happy Birthday!

For me it's usually a sleep gap! I'd do it all, but my body demands at least six hours a night and prefers eight if I don't want to be left cranky and groggy. That being said, I survived a whole day on two hours of sleep, so I guess I can do it once in awhile. I also think that adult responsibilities force me to act like a grown up on occasion!

After having met both you and Lulu, I would've never guessed you guy were in your forties. Especially after I had to ask each of you, repeatedly, to stop playing with your food.

Thanks, Dad! I actually did fling a forkful of peas at my very conservative father once during a meal. It is possibly the most rebellious thing I have ever done in my life. It left me with that, "Uh, oh, what will happen next?" feeling. I liked it!

HAPPY (two days before your) BIRTHDAY! I think you look amazing (and I saw your t*ts back in October). As someone on the other end of her forties, I can tell you things keep getting better. Amazingly so. And yet you'll always feel 19 inside (for me, it's 26).

Show 'em how great 42 is!

Thanks, guys! I'm not giving up my wild rock and roll life just yet. It's The Methadones for me on my birthday. Another year, another decibel of hearing gone.

CP-I took the pictures with my nifty new Mac Book with the built in camera and cool effects. Bink and I played with it for awhile the other day.

I'm strongly considering staying somewhere around 8.

18 was much too much work. ;)

Happy Birthday! I must admit, I feel the same way. We look 30, we act 18, and we're STUDENTS, for pete's sake. That makes 40 irrelevant.
